It’s engagement session season. That time of year, where after the busyness of the holidays and the cold winter days- and after several months of wedding planning couples venture out to capture their all important engagement photo.
I thought it was fitting to get back to blogging this engagement season with this incredible surprise proposal!!! I got to photograph this a few months back in the midst of winter on the Oregon Coast- don’t let anyone fool you, the Oregon Coast does not have a time where it’s not breathtaking. Cold? Yes! Windy? You bet! Beautiful? Absolutely!
Here’s the thing though; Richard contacted me right away when he made plans to fly out to Oregon to visit his love Erin. He planned to propose to her at her beach house, which overlooks the ocean on the Oregon Coast. As he excitedly planned his trip and the details of this amazing surprise (can we just admit this guy is amaaaazing!!, Erin you are one lucky girl!) he gave me the days’ timeline and I held my breath. Both in awe of his plans but also in fear that I had to educate him on how the setting sun would be gone (by two hours!) when he wanted to propose. I explained we would be shooting in the dark (can we say challenge-galore!)- and the moment would be magical but the photos would be best at sunset time. A man with a vision, he insisted that the dark was the plan, he wanted to propose to Erin with the sounds of the waves and under the stars- he even had his spot all picked out, a place where they will get to spend many years watching many sunsets. How could I deny him that? So what if it wasn’t in natural lighting- something I thrive in. I would just have to get my a-game on and my lighting gear. And so we did. Artificial light and all, Richard’s vision was better than I imagined and the moment left me in tears when Erin repeatedly said YES and jumped into his arms!!
Stay tuned friends, next week I will be blogging their SUNRISE beach engagement session and trust me, you will not want to miss it!!
