Meeting for the first time on a cold and wet afternoon we set out on a two hour adventure to document their love story. They traveled from the midwest and faced a classic Oregon winter day (read wet and windy) but amidst the beautiful Oregon Evergreen and cool ocean waters, they danced and embraced, laughed and held hands as we walked the trails every once in awhile stopping to photograph. They even came prepared with coffee to share- my kind of couple!
The goal of every engagement session is two fold; One to document the couple’s unique love story but also to allow a space and time for us all to get to know one another. As a photographer my goal is to accurately document my subjects as they truly are individually and as a couple. You can’t document that if you do not allow time to really get to know one another. And I certainly don’t believe you can be comfortable being photographed in front of a complete stranger on your wedding day so…..This is the reason why engagement sessions are so important friends!
Engagement sessions allow for intimacy and make room for trust to grow. In the span of two hours it makes room for three people to get to know one another better, it enables us to learn about each other. A couple sees how I work behind the lens, and I get to see how they work together carefully guiding them as they may need in order to capture them and their love at their best. And come the wedding day….. well, we are old friends and can be ourselves- allowing real. genuine. unposed emotions to unfold! That’s the goal isn’t it? REAL images that capture REAL life and REAL love! Even when that includes a few salamanders! ;)
