“Welcome to my living room. Sit down. Enjoy a cup of coffee with me and stay awhile.” THIS. This was my goal with this space. Yet when we bought this gorgeous property in the middle of the woods– our dream fixer upper, I became occupied with more pressing details. Like removing all the crazy wallpaper from each bathroom. replacing all the (hideous 70s) flooring in the basement. Oh and those avocado toilets and sinks in the bathrooms…. yeah, I got a little busy. When the huge projects were finished I was done. And I do mean done! We left the furniture in the living room un-rearanged and just found ourselves out of steam. Then……
Then enters Morgan from Sparrow Song Design. And it’s like Disney music and magic just took over. Like Tink, with one swoop and ferry dusting my dream unfolding in sight…. okay.okay…. Maybe it wasn’t just like that but it had the magic that only Disney does, y’all!
Morgan came to look the space over. Heard a few of my frustrations and wishes. Then I sent her over a pinterest board that I had begun a few years back. I don’t feel like I ever said “THIS is what I want” but rather we just discussed me wanting to use Josh’s family’s heirlooms, wanting much more seating and purpose to the room, and my big request: get our TV from out of the closet, where it had been for a year and half, so that we could enjoy family movie nights again but, and here’s the tricky part, I didn’t want the TV to look tacky in our living room (am I the only one who hates visible power cords?)- and I certainly didn’t want it to be what the room revolved around.
She asked us to leave the space one afternoon and when we came home this is the state our home was in. Perfect. Peaceful. Purposeful (with enough seating for our Bible Study nights!), fresh and with much more light than we had before simply because of the way she arranged the furniture and placed lighter drapes and a mirror on one side of the room to bring in more light: genius!
